KCUE Higher Education Training Institute Unveils 2025 Training Plans

The Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) Higher Education Training Institute announced the results of its training operations in 2024 and plans for 2025, as it begins its 2025 winter teaching methods course.

The KCUE Higher Education Training Institute has been offering training courses for university faculty members and employees since 1995. Designed to facilitate faculties’ job competency and teaching skills and develop expertise in specific area, they have made significant contributions to the development of higher education. The institute opens new courses and revises existing courses based on feedback from universities.

In 2024, 7,393 people attended 180 courses, an increase of 783 people compared to the previous year. The course-takers were highly satisfied with the training courses, as demonstrated by the overall satisfaction score of 86.9 out of 100.

○ The course-takers were: 69 admin officers (2 courses), 3,302 teaching staff (89 courses), 1,661 OJT trainees (29 courses), 1,465 professional development course-takers (43 courses), 612 practice skills development course-takers (12 courses), 252 specialized training program participants (4 courses), and 32 entrusted trainees (1 course). Overall, 7,393 people attended 180 courses, an increase of nine courses and 783 course-takers.

○ Notably, the mandatory training hours for admissions officers were reduced in 2024, which led to a decrease in participants in professional training courses. However, the number of course-takers in all courses but for these professional training courses such as teaching methods and on-the-job training increased, resulting in an increase of more than 10% in the total number of course-takers compared to the previous year.

○ The course-takers were highly satisfied with the courses, with satisfaction scores of 88.0 for teaching methods, 87.8 for professional training, and 85.6 for on-the-job training out of 100 points.

○ Feedback from 2024 participants included: "The courses were practical and hands-on, which has helped me a lot in my work," and "I plan to come back every year to improve my skills."

○ "The participants were very engaged in the classes with a very high attendance rate. I saw a marked difference in their attitudes compared to previous years' participants," said an instructor in 2024.

In 2025, 184 training courses are available: 2 for admin officers, 91 in teaching methods, 29 on-the-job training courses, 41 professional development courses, 17 practical skills development courses, and 41 specialized training courses, with 7,500 participants expected.

○ Teaching methods courses have been expanded to include the latest teaching trends, such as the use of Chat GPT and AI. Non-face-to-face courses have also been introduced to allow trainees to take courses during the school terms.

○ The on-the-job training courses will be developed by taking into account the needs of working-level staff and changes in higher education policies based on consultation with area-specific councils.

○ Four specialized training courses will be established based on issues related to higher education and the needs of universities. Among the professional development courses, plans for 10 basic training courses (for admissions officers) will be finalized in April in consultation with the KCUE Admissions Fairness Support Team.
