The annual Winter Seminar for University Presidents and General Assembly of the KCUE was convened with attendance by 145 of the Council's 201 member presidents in addition to officials from government offices and higher education-related organizations and other member university staff.
The annual budget and operational plans of the Council for 2011 were debated and approved during the General Assembly session, and Handong Global University President Young-Kil Kim was selected to succeed outgoing Council Chairman Ki-Su Lee, president of Korea University. Chul Park, president of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, was chosen to succeed President Kim in his current position as Vice-Chairman. Their new terms will begin March 1, 2011.
The Winter Seminar included addresses and discussion on university branding, the importance of universities in the national agenda, and efficiency in university administration. The seven ad hoc committees of the Council also convened to discuss internationalization, university funding, accreditation, and other topics. These topics and others were then discussed with Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Ju-Ho Lee during a one hour question/answer session with attending presidents.
